Lot 3622
1865 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. CAC Approved. A nice white Proof. Only 500 struck. A nice blizzard white tint radiates from this lustrous Seated Quarter. Of course, collectors seeing the photos understand this coin is nicely struck for the date, best of all entirely so, with full frosted devices present. Certainly a coin that gets proper mention where completeness of design is always a bonus. Pop 11; 10 finer (PCGS # 85561) .

Lot 3623
1874 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. Arrows. PCGS graded Proof 64. CAC Approved. Nice golden toning. Only 700 struck. Two-year Type. Excellent detail from a fine impression by the dies, the surfaces show sharp silver color beneath the natural patina acquired over the years. The strike is strong, and best with clear definition to the high points and stars. The Coinage Act of February 12, 1873 lowered the weight of the quarter to 6.22 grams from 6.25 grams. To denote this change, arrows were added to the obverse at both sides of the date in 1873-74, a practice that was discontinued in 1875. Pop 62; 42 finer (PCGS # 5575) .
Estimated Value $1,900 - 2,000.

Lot 3625
1882 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. NGC graded Proof 65 Cameo PQ. CAC Approved. Only 1,100 pieces struck. A lustrous Gem Proof of this later, low-mintage issue that has icy color that shoots out beams of white from the devices and a first rate strike. In more respects than one, the dies left their rigid impression behind on this desirable Proof without even the slightest flaw or ambiguity, only a few are ever found this way. Sharp, even at the centers. Collectors who may not wish to take on the task of building a complete set of Proofs from 1858 (or 1854) to 1891, often choose the popular 1879-1890 issues which are scarce in Proof format and also very elusive in Mint State. Pop 7; 19 finer.
Estimated Value $1,700 - 1,800.

Lot 3627
1885 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo. A hint of blue and lilac toning. Only 930 minted. This lovely Proof is dancing with full, pleasing mirror-deep fields while frosty luster graces the devices. But we are hard pressed to find even a single carbon fleck or abrasion. Having that in mind for the mint originality, we see as well a full, bold transfer from Proof die to planchet notable in the two shields, Liberty's hair and gown, and on the eagle's plumage. Pop 10; 25 finer (PCGS # 85586) .

1896 Barber Quarter Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. CAC Approved. Mostly white. A black and white cameo effect. Only 762 Proofs minted. A razor sharp Gem that has delicate frosted surface on the devices. Lustrous and immaculately preserved. Everyone knows that luster isn't the only side of a grade. So too, the detail, and here the devices shine since they as sharp as can be. Pop 20; 30 finer .

Lot 3630
1896 Barber Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. CAC Approved. A nice white coin with a pleasing cameo effect. Only 762 minted. The snowy fresh color is especially revealing on Liberty's profile which is smooth, satiny, and exceedingly choice. In many ways, the strike is almost more important than the mint bloom on these. Sheer boldness of strike furnishes the coin something to blow its own horn about and something for bidders to appreciate. Pop 59; 76 finer (PCGS # 5682) .

1900 Barber Quarter Dollar. NGC graded Proof 66. CAC Approved. Only 912 Proofs struck. A nice cameo effect. This fully struck Gem Proof has glowing icy white devices and no problems on either side. Very advantageous quality in Gem condition and with intact mint vibrancy. Among the rest of the characteristics, the coin displays clear-cut devices on Liberty, the eagle, and the stars, from having been giving a full strike by the dies. Pop 38; 19 finer .

Lot 3632
1914 Barber Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64 PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely shades of golden toning. Only 380 pieces struck. Pleasant, almost cheery silver satin frost peeks through the toning with lots of fresh white color but it is the warm reds and golds which capture the imagination here. Especially bold strike, as expected. The 1914 issue has the lowest Proof total in the Barber series. Always commands a premium for this fact alone. Pop 58; 53 finer (PCGS # 5700) .

Lot 3633
1916 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. Housed in a First Generation Holder. Light golden toning. A satiny example with strong fundamental luster. Nicely struck, including most of the detail in Liberty's head and all shield rivets - close enough to full head that special attention should be given by those bidding. Indeed, the luster of the present coin easily rivals that of a Mint State 64 specimen.

Hermon A. MacNeil's beautiful Standing Liberty Quarter design made its entrance in 1916 and continued in production until 1930. Mintage that year was limited to the Philadelphia Mint. The facility did not deliver its first Standing Liberty Quarters until December 16, however due to the usual minor problems in the design department preparing the hubs and working dies. Between that date and the end of the December, only 52,000 pieces of the new design were struck. With its limited mintage, especially for a 20th century silver coin, the popularity of this issue was set for years to come. One expert suggest that the 1916 is the most keenly sought issue in the entire Standing Liberty Quarter series, even more so than the 1918/7-S overdate.

A definite highlight of this sale, this choice specimen is one of the more significant Quarters of any design that serious collectors will acquire (PCGS # 5704) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.

Lot 3634
1917-D Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. Type 1. PCGS graded MS-66 Full Head. CAC Approved. Well struck with nice original toning. When the Standing Liberty quarters were first released in 1916-1917, they received favorable numismatic press, and many collectors -- the overall number being relatively small at the time -- set aside pieces for their collections or as souvenirs. However, there was virtually no interest in collecting by date and mint at the time. Then in the early 1930s Wayte Raymond launched his "National" series of cardboard album pages, with clear slides. For the first time collectors had a way to conveniently store coins while examining both sides, and at the same time having openings for all of the branch mint coins including varieties. Denver Mint 1917 quarter dollars survive only because a few collectors bought them in the upper, central and lower Midwest where they were distributed by the regional Federal Reserve Banks into the local banking community.

Lustrous, mint-frosty surfaces underneath the toning, the overall appearance greatly reinforced by sharp devices. A resplendent Gem. Pop 107; 18 finer in 67 (PCGS # 5709) .

Lot 3635
1917 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. Type 2. NGC graded MS-67. Frosty and white. Those who live in the cold climates know freshly fallen snow-whiteness, the kind of luster seen here, expansive and beautiful, with sharp definition and only a few tiny marks. A truly exceptional Gem of this early Type 2 issue. Far in advance as the luster goes, so too are the designs: Fully struck in all areas with pinpoint detailing on the shield and most rivets; only Liberty's head misses out on complete detail. Pop 5; none finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Lot 3640
1930-S Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded MS-67 Full Head. Nicely toned. A lustrous fresh example whose superb brilliance whirls dizzily around the surface under the lovely color. At best, it is not easy to find such luster, even on a common date 1930-S. So too crisp definition on the main devices counts for a lot. Mathematically exact standards are seen in the sharp shield and head details, among other areas. Everything is superb. Pop 17; none finer in Full Head at PCGS (PCGS # 5781) .
